Aloha! Welcome to hawaiian-reef.com This site has been set up to record the creation and evolution of a 3,130 litre (827 U.S. gallon) biotope aquarium modelled on the corals, fish and other fauna found around the reefs of the French Frigate Shoals in the North Western Hawaiian Island chain. For an explanation of the biotope concept and how I have chosen to implement it please follow the links in The Biotope tab at the top of the page. And if you are curious as to why I have chosen to create a biotope modelled on Hawaii you should follow the links in About Hawaii tab at the top of the page, but the picture above should have given you a hint... While many details of the main biotope aquarium are now settled, most of the equipment acquired, and some central systems already installed, the aquarium itself is not expected to go into position much before summer 2009 as there are various alterations and building works that need to be completed first. So I'm afraid that a number of pages on this site have yet to be completed. But in the meantime do please explore the links in the tabs above which will take you to related information on how the Hawaiian reefs developed and what makes them unique, as well as other aquarium projects of mine - including the original 530 litre (140 U.S. gallon) Hawaiian biotope pilot, now dismantled, which was the 'wet-run' for this larger biotope project. I hope you will find these projects and this website of interest. If you would like to send me feedback, or read what others have said on this and my previous Hawaiian biotope project, then click on the Feedback tab in the menu above. And if you are just curious about the obsessive/compulsive who has created all of this then you will find details in the About Me page. Happy Reefing!
